A Night at the Addams Family Musical
by Andrew Williams
On March 22, 2025, I had the pleasure of watching The Addams Family Musical at Westbury. Although I missed the opening night on the 21st, I made sure to attend the following evening for the second performance.
Summary of the Musical
The story begins with the Addams Family ancestors returning from the grave to join their descendants in a lively dance. At the heart of the plot is Wednesday Addams, the pride of the family, who has fallen in love with a boy named Kevin. Secretly, she confides in her father, Gomez, showing him, the engagement ring Kevin gave her. She makes him promise to keep it a secret from her mother, Morticia.
Gomez, torn between his loyalty to his daughter and his honesty with his wife, struggles with keeping the secret. As the play unfolds, the families gather for dinner, where they engage in a traditional Addams Family game called Full Disclosure. The game involves drinking from a chalice and revealing truths in a circle. Eventually, the secret comes out—Kevin has proposed to Wednesday, and they plan to marry.
My Thoughts on the Performance
Every actor delivered an outstanding performance, bringing their characters to life with energy and passion. Some of my favorite moments included Uncle Fester’s hilarious song and the scene where he lifted Kevin’s father. His comedic timing was impeccable, making the audience laugh throughout the play.
Gomez, Morticia, and Uncle Fester stood out with their captivating performances, but I also enjoyed watching Kevin, his parents, and the ancestors on stage. The dedication and effort put into the musical were evident, and I would definitely watch it again.
Two particularly memorable moments stood out to me. First, when Kevin’s mother unknowingly drank from the chalice after Pugsley secretly tampered with it, leading to an amusing scene. The second was Uncle Fester’s love for the moon—wearing a rocket, he floated higher and higher toward the audience, reaching for the moon in a moment that was both funny and visually impressive.
Final Thoughts
Overall, The Addams Family Musical was a fantastic experience filled with humor, talent, and unforgettable moments. The actors did an amazing job. The performance was delightful. If you enjoy entertaining performances, I highly recommend attending future Westbury events. Stay tuned for more exciting productions!
