On Saturday February 1, 2025, the Westbury High School hosted the Reid-Robeson Classic. The classic celebrates two local icons who have made lasting contributions to the community, Martin “Bunky” Reid and Paul Robeson. Bunky Reid was a coach who led his team to a New York State title, a Nassau County title, and many league championships and playoff berths. He was known for his coaching skills and developing his players into gentlemen on and off the court. Paul Robeson was a gifted coach who left a lasting impact on his players. In addition to being a great coach, Robeson was an amazing athlete in both football and basketball, an actor and a human rights activist. The day was filled with great basketball games for teams from Nassau County.
Our boys varsity team defeated Hempstead with a score of 69-58. The highlight performances were Apollo Simmons #0 with 11 points, Zion Mitchell #2 with three points, Brian Destart #3 with twenty-two points, Emmanuel Desorier #4 with seven points, Richmond Desorier #11 with 3 points, Ashle Padoany #12 with eleven points, Petshley Loussaint #14 with six points, Sincere Dukes #15 with two points, Deron Beale ##24 with twenty-two points, Ronald Prezeau #4 with two points. It was also the boy’s senior night. It was a remarkable night with outstanding performances by all the players and great teamwork. Wishing the seniors all the best in their next chapter and congratulating the Dragons on a great season!
