As the leaves begin to change, so does the energy around school, fall sports have officially begun. The fields and gymnasium filled with fall athletes hard at work, showing their Dragon Pride. This season, many students are participating in fall sports, including cross country, soccer, cheerleading, football, and volleyball. Coaches and athletes are working hard every day, giving their best effort to bring home wins and make this season a success. So far, the fall sports season at Westbury High School has been full of energy and impressive performances.
Our Varsity football team is coached by Coach Savalis Charles and he is assisted by John Nuzzi, Joe Simeone, and Lamont Burns. The team has been putting effects in practice so they can show it off in the field. They have kept the team competitive in their game. The junior varsity team is coached by Darius Young and assisted by Mr.Harrison. The team has been putting their efforts in practice and on the field, they will keep rising in every game. Make sure to go support them in upcoming games.
The girls soccer teams have also been making their presence known this season. The girls junior varsity team is led by Mr.Sanchez and Ms.Morris , while the varsity team is coached by Mr.Nantsis and assisted by Ms. Baxter. Both teams are showing excellent teamwork and improving their skills everyday. The girls’ junior varsity team recently secured a thrilling victory against Elmont, with a score of 4-0, goals scored by Yasmeen, Madely, and Alyssa. The varsity team also got a thrilling recent victory against Hempstead, with a score of 6-0, goals scored by Ingrid, Ashly and Maria. Both teams are putting up a strong fight this year.
The boys’ junior varsity and varsity soccer teams have also been putting in a strong effort this season. The junior varsity team, coached by Mr.Monioudis and assisted by Mr.Imrit, has shown great improvement, with players learning to work together and sharpen their skills with every match. The varsity team, led by Coach Mr. Valentini and assisted by Mr. Pedicini, has demonstrated strong teamwork, discipline, and consistent progress on the field. The soccer teams have been impressive on both offense and defense.
Cross country runners, coached by Donald Ross, have been pushing their limits at meets, with several athletes achieving personal bests. The dedication every runner puts in every meets is the best to watch. Make sure to wish them the best of luck in there upcoming meets.
Cheerleading is coached by Ms.Janasko, the cheerleading team continues to energize the crowd with their spirited routines at games and events, boosting spirits and supporting all teams. Make sure to thank the cheerleaders for being there cheering everyone on.
The girls junior varsity volleyball team, coached by Ms. Deangelis, has been developing strong teamwork and showing growth with every game they play. Their hard work in practice is clearly going to show on the court. They stand their ground and keep the ball up at all cost.
The varsity volleyball team, coached by Ms.Beraud, has brought intensity and focus to each match. The team has displayed excellent communication, powerful serves, and strong defensive plays. Many outstanding players played important roles in the team’s success so far.
The boys volleyball team is coached by Mr.Rodriguez, the team shows sportsmanship and supports each other both in practice and during games. Whether they gain a win or lose, they continue to learn and grow. Every player has a unique contribution to the team whether it is serving, setting, striking or defending, and together they make up a strong team.
The swimming team is showing talent, teamwork, and serious dedication in every meet, the team is coached by Ms.Mueller and assisted by Mr. Mueller. Swimmers have been training hard and posting impressive times. With strong leadership and rising talent, the team is aiming high for upcoming competitions. Students and staff are encouraged to show their support as the team continues to dive toward success.
